Staff Accountant

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To provide accounting & reporting services as a member of the Financial Accounting & Reporting Department with primary focus on preparing consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules, participating in month-end close, recording journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, accounting for new entities & joint ventures, and performing financial statement analysis.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitates and completes the monthly financial statement close process.

Prepares month-end and year-end consolidated financial statements and reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This includes the preparation of a complete set of financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Changes in Net Assets, and the Statement of Cash Flows) with accompanying notes.

Performs financial statement analysis.

Assists in accounting and maintaining the books & records for new lines of business and joint ventures.

Performs special assignments involving detailed research.

Answers financial and accounting questions by interpreting data and, with a thorough understanding of the business, prepares written analysis of the business transactions that drive financial statement results.

Prepares general ledger entries.

Performs general ledger account reconciliations.

Generates reports from the general ledger accounting system and puts together consolidated financial statements with eliminations.

Develops and maintains supporting documentation for all aspects of job functions.

Assists with providing support for the annual external audit and other examinations.

Identifies and proposes process improvement opportunities.

Performs other duties as required.

SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Works closely with teammates in the Financial Accounting & Reporting Department. Frequent contact with other departments within Finance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.

One-year accounting experience or a history of accounting internships preferred.

Healthcare financial or related experience preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Ability to learn departmental policies, procedures, and operations.

Ability to work under strict deadlines and time constraints.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to identify process improvements using technology.

Comfortable in a predominately paperless business process environment.

Ability to utilize various accounting information systems (Experience with Workday Financials is a plus).

Ability to perform financial analysis.

Ability to interact with outside personnel such as auditors, physicians, and banks.

Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Must be detail oriented.

Must be team oriented.
